Real Music & Real Estate . . .

Yiddishe Cup’s bandleader, Bert Stratton, is Klezmer Guy.

He knows about the band biz and – check this out – the real estate biz, too.

You may not care about the real estate biz. Hey, you may not care about the band biz. (See you.)

This is a blog with a gamy twist. It features tenants with snakes and skunks, and musicians with smoked fish in their pockets.

Stratton has written op-eds for the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Washington Post.

SHOULD I RENT TO A STRIPPER?
(THE MOVIE)

This is the most acclaimed animation yet from the guys over at Challah-Barbaric.  This movie may appear like a navel-gazing indulgence, but it’s not.  It’s magical.

Should I rent to a Stripper? is the lost collaboration between Fred Flintstone and Maimonides. It is a guide for the perplexed landlord and tenant.

The two main characters — a sleazy guy from Yiddishe Cup LLC and a bug-eyed naïf — turn the nasty, grim, cutthroat real estate world into something even grimmer — and very robotic.

The landlord is so pompous at first.  Then he’s more so. But the young lady draws forth a bit of the landlord’s humanity and even a Chanukah song lyric.

After the movie, the couple goes for drinks and has an affair.

2:57 minutes. United States, 2010

There you go, Bert. Is this the alternative to your blog? Maybe this is the contemporary Harvey Pekar’s venue: animated film of your life as a landlord with insightful observations.

From aspiring landlords you could make a bundle with your very own YouTube series on all the mishugas an owner must confront.

What the H is “Challah-Barbaric”? This is brilliant! You wrote this, right? More details, please!

What! You did not pose the question, “Should I rent to a drummer?” Of course, we already know the answer to that one!

However, if you ever want to get rid of the tenant downstairs, rent to a drummer.

And if you have a stripper living next door to a vacancy, call me. I’ll take it.

To Mark Schilling:

Challah-Barbaric is the animation department at Klezmer Guy — this blog. I wrote the movie.

You want more back story? I watched a funny YouTube clip, “So You Want to Go to Law School?” At the end of the vid, the animation company, Xtranormal, ran a blurb: “If you can type, you can make a movie.” That’s what got me into movie making.
