My wife, Alice,<\/strong><\/span> and I were bumped from a plane at the Phoenix airport. We got free tickets, a hotel room and food vouchers.\u00a0 Our son Teddy — who wasn\u2019t with us — thought it was the greatest deal of all time.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t.\u00a0 I wasn’t young. \u00a0I was not looking forward to a free night at the Phoenix Embassy Suites. \u00a0 I had stuff to do at home.<\/p>\n

Stop.<\/em>\u00a0 Maybe you do not<\/span> like airport-travel horror stories.<\/p>\n

Restart.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span>Maybe<\/span> you do . . .<\/p>\n

The Embassy Suites van driver was from Cleveland and had wrestled at John Marshall High.\u00a0 We talked about the Milkovich family, the 1960s Maple Heights wrestling dynasty.\u00a0 The driver took Alice and me to the Heard, the American Indian museum.\u00a0 Any place within five miles of the hotel was a free ride.<\/p>\n

I jogged along a canal by the hotel.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t have any clean clothes (my suitcase was on the plane to Cleveland), so I jogged shirtless, with long pants and brown leather shoes.\u00a0 The Mexican-Americans along the canal gave me the once-over.<\/p>\n

"Oye, Curly!"<\/p><\/div>\n

Alice and I<\/strong><\/span> arrived at the Phoenix airport the next morning at 7 a.m. and didn\u2019t get on the early flight.\u00a0 I was ready to kill.<\/p>\n

We paced the airport for a couple more hours.\u00a0 There was no fresh air.<\/p>\n

We got on a mid-morning flight and had to connect via Houston.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s my\u00a0 story.<\/p>\n

Your airport travel story is no doubt worse.<\/p>\n
