My<\/strong> records<\/strong><\/span> were heavy, and I didn’t want them. I hadn\u2019t listened to them in about 20 years. I said to my friend Carl, \u201cIn 10 years\u00a0I might not be\u00a0able to physically pitch them. I\u2019ll be sitting in my La-Z-Boy and making my kids choose between Bob Dylan and Jefferson Airplane.\u00a0So I\u2019m doing it now for my kids\u2019 sake.\u201d<\/p>\n Harvey Pekar <\/span>used to rifle through my albums.\u00a0The only album he ever wanted was my Charlie Parker Memorial Album,<\/em> Vogue Records, England, 1956. I didn\u2019t sell the record to Harvey because I figured if he wanted it, it must be worth something.<\/p>\n A record-<\/span>store owner came to my house; Pete from Blue Arrow Records stopped by. This was in 2012. Pete went through my record collection a few times as I said goodbye to Aretha Live at the Fillmore<\/em> West<\/em>, Herbie Mann\u2019s Memphis Underground<\/em>, and some Paul Butterfield, Gary Burton, B.B. King and Mayall. I got $300 for about 100 records. Not bad.\u00a0Pete didn\u2019t care about the condition of the records.\u00a0Pete said his target market — millennials — \u201cwon\u2019t buy the reissue LPs, they want the originals like yours.\u201d<\/p>\n I said, \u201cWhat jumped out at you? Is there any album worth ninety percent of what you paid me?\u201d<\/p>\n He said,<\/strong> <\/span>\u201cI like your two Fred Neil\u2019s — Everybody\u2019s Talkin\u2019<\/em> and Sessions<\/em>.\u00a0You don\u2019t see those often.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLet me take a photo, Pete, of the collection. Don\u2019t worry, I don’t want the records back.\u201d<\/p>\n I want them back now. I also want my baseball cards back, which I sold in 2007.
