{"id":267,"date":"2009-06-02T07:47:20","date_gmt":"2009-06-02T11:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/?p=267"},"modified":"2011-04-20T12:59:41","modified_gmt":"2011-04-20T16:59:41","slug":"over-easyat-the-big-ego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/02\/over-easyat-the-big-ego\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;OVER EASY&#8221;AT THE BIG EGO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>The band biz is a fraction of the real estate<\/strong><\/span> money, but the time commitment is about the same.\u00a0 And as for the psychic payoff, the band is several times higher than the real estate biz.\u00a0 Nobody is going to give you credit \u2014 at least long-lasting credit \u2014 for fixing a toilet.\u00a0 Nobody is going to write on your tombstone: &#8220;This guy provided heat for many apts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The real estate biz \u2014 that is humble stuff.\u00a0 The arts \u2014 one big ego trip.\u00a0 My dad said that.\u00a0 He was probably right.\u00a0 Where did he come up with the word <em>ego<\/em>? \u00a0\u00a0That wasn&#8217;t his style.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Right after I started Yiddishe Cup,<\/strong><\/span> in 1988, I told the <em>Cleveland Jewish News<\/em>, &#8220;We&#8217;re not in it for fame and fortune.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That lasted about six months. \u00a0After our first concert, we began dining regularly at The Big Ego, which is next to The Big Egg, W.   51<sup>st <\/sup>Street and Detroit   Avenue.\u00a0 Figuratively speaking.<br \/>\n&#8212;-<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #339966;\">Tomorrow:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #339966;\">The Yiddishe Cup Fight Song . . .
