{"id":233,"date":"2009-05-25T07:16:58","date_gmt":"2009-05-25T11:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/?p=233"},"modified":"2012-09-28T09:30:54","modified_gmt":"2012-09-28T13:30:54","slug":"po-po-as-renter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/25\/po-po-as-renter\/","title":{"rendered":"PO-PO AS RENTER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>The Lakewood, Ohio, police chief offered<\/strong><\/span> me 20 percent less than the going rent to put in a police mini-station. \u00a0<em>Fine<\/em>. \u00a0No, <em>Great<\/em>.\u00a0 There were apartments above, and single women love living near a police station.\u00a0 Some women are fixated on intruders crawling through their windows.<\/p>\n<p>A Jewish museum wanted to change a date, but I couldn&#8217;t accommodate them because one of my guys was leaving town for vacation.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"po-po\"><\/a> Then a private garbage hauler wanted me to lock in for another year. \u00a0Not great. \u00a0The city was making all landlords pay for hauling; it used to be free.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>A nurse wanted to rent an apartment.<\/strong><\/span> Great.\u00a0 <em>Nurse<\/em> is top of the line.\u00a0 Once every five years I&#8217;ll even get a doctor \u2014 usually a 28-year-old doc without a ton of cash.\u00a0 My apartments have no garbage disposers or dishwashers.\u00a0 Barebones.\u00a0 But at $500 a month, or so, that&#8217;s the deal around here.<\/p>\n<p>A woman from the Boca Raton,  Fla., JCC called me &#8220;darling&#8221; and said we were her favorite klezmer band, so I gave her two comp tickets to our South Florida show.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;-<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #339966;\">Happy Memorial Day<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #339966;\">Tomorrow:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #339966;\">MY CLARINET NEEDS TILEX . . .
