\u201cYou got that right. My name is Bert Stratton. What\u2019s yours?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTom Stratton-Crooke.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI could tell by the cut of your jib.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s your<\/em> field?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSteamships.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSteamships?\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhere did you go to school?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cCollege<\/em>? Michigan.”<\/p>\n

“Ann Arbor?”<\/p>\n

“Yes. What<\/strong><\/span> about you?”<\/p>\n

\u201cKing\u2019s Point, the Merchant Marine Academy. Then NYU. I was in Japan and Korea, and Iran, and then throughout the Middle East. The colonel liked my loquacious manner.”<\/p>\n

I turned to go. \u201cNice meeting you, Mr. Stratton-Crooke.”<\/p>\n

“Likewise.”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

“I\u2019m Stratton, but I\u2019m not a crook,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n
