My wife, Alice,<\/strong><\/span> was one of the many star-struck fans who drove to Rockside Road and I-77 in Cleveland to audition for The Avengers <\/em>movie.<\/p>\n

I asked Alice, \u201cDid you get the part?\u00a0 Did you read anything?\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only did she not read, she did not even audition.\u00a0The traffic was so horrendous at Rockside Road, she turned around.\u00a0 Thousands of people had shown up for the audition.\u00a0 The line of wannabes snaked at least a mile from the building, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer<\/em>.<\/p>\n

There was<\/strong><\/span> another Hollywood movie, Fun Size<\/em>, filmed a few weeks earlier, several blocks from our house in Cleveland Heights.\u00a0 That\u2019s when Alice got star struck.\u00a0 Catering and make-up trucks were around our neighborhood.<\/p>\n

I heard about it.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want to see the trucks.\u00a0 I have a bias against Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Hollywood guys have too much fun.\u00a0 They should be making radiator valves, or PVC pipe fittings, like the rest of the world.\u00a0 Not blowing things up and eating from catering trucks.<\/p>\n

My wife\u2019s<\/strong><\/span> school gym (where she teaches elementary-school physical education) was turned into a vast make-up room for Fun Size<\/em>.\u00a0 She said the school board got $500,000 for the rental.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t believe that.\u00a0 Alice’s source — the school janitor — told her the five-hundred grand figure.<\/p>\n

Make that $50,000.\u00a0 I\u2019d accept that.\u00a0 Better yet, $5,000.\u00a0 Who would pay half a million to rent a school building for a couple days?\u00a0 Hollywood is a funny ballpark, but not that funny.<\/p>\n

Hollywood\u2019s latest<\/strong><\/span> tax-abatement haven\/heaven is Ohio.\u00a0 Used to be Michigan.<\/p>\n

I would like to be in a movie, Alice. \u00a0 But I would demand some lines and star food.\u00a0 No way am I going to be a man in the crowd, not at this point in my career.<\/p>\n

I want to blow up something.\u00a0 Grab a lighter, Alice.\u00a0 You have a role.<\/p>\n
