I’m loyal to<\/strong><\/span> my clarinet.\u00a0 A reminder card in the case tells me I have\u00a0 an orthodontist appointment on Oct. 19, 1964.<\/p>\n

Many people in Cleveland are loyal to axes and other old things: sports teams, neighborhoods (East Side or West Side), mustards (Bertman Ball Park or Stadium), delis (Jack’s or Corky & Lenny’s).<\/p>\n

I tried to<\/strong><\/span> leave.\u00a0 My father kept hocking<\/em> me to move to California. \u00a0I visited<\/em> California several times.\u00a0 I hitchhiked to San Francisco and bought a yarmulke at a Judaica store on Gerry Street and went up and down the \"loayl-to-axe-12\"<\/strong><\/span>coast. \u00a0I didn’t get any reaction to the yarmulke until I hit the Chabad House at UCLA:\u00a0 Oy<\/em> hey!<\/p>\n

Yiddishe Cup has several lifelong\u00a0Clevelanders in the band.\u00a0 Alan Douglass, our keyboard player, is from Mayfield Spillage (Mayfield Village). \u00a0Irwin Weinberger, our singer, is from Pukelid (Euclid).\u00a0 I’m from South Useless (South Euclid).<\/p>\n

\"corky-lenny1\"*A half truth.\u00a0 Half the band is from out of town.\u00a0 Trombonist\u00a0 Steve Ostrow is from San Diego. Drummer \u00a0Don Friedman is from Erie, Pennsylvania.\u00a0 Daniel Ducoff, our dance leader, is from San Francisco.<\/p>\n
