“Struttin’ with <\/strong><\/span>Some Barbecue”<\/strong><\/span> by Louis Armstrong is probably the best song title.\u00a0 It has action, smell and humor.<\/p>\n

The worst title is “Rise Up to New Jewish Music.” A couple Jewish bands go for that sort of thing.\u00a0 They are not playing klezmer — which peaked a while ago.\u00a0 They are playing “New Jewish Music.”<\/p>\n

Anything new <\/em>is old.<\/p>\n

Several newer<\/strong><\/span> klezmer bands don’t use klezmer<\/em> in their names.\u00a0 Like Shtreiml<\/a>, Golem<\/a> and the Kosher Spears.\u00a0 (That last band is made up.)<\/p>\n

“Yiddishe Cup,” the name, gets the job done around town, but doesn’t get us any gigs at Ashkenaz or other mohel’s<\/em>-edge international music festivals.\u00a0 “Yiddishe Cup” is bubbe’s procus<\/em> (grandma’s stuffed cabbage.).<\/p>\n

Before Yiddishe Cup released its latest CD, Klezmer Guy<\/em>, I test-drove several album titles.\u00a0 One was Jammin’ with the Salmon<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Smokin' salmon<\/p><\/div>\n

Nobody understood<\/strong><\/span> it.\u00a0 “Nobody” was my wife, Alice. \u00a0I didn’t run the title by anybody else.\u00a0 I didn’t want the aggravation of more artistic input.\u00a0 I’m not running a democracy.\u00a0 I settled on Klezmer Guy. <\/em>It gets the job done.<\/p>\n
