I was down and out<\/strong><\/span> in a Marriott hotel in Troy, Mich. \u00a0 The bride, several hours earlier, had told me, “I can’t dance in these shoes.\u00a0 Can I just watch the hora?”<\/p>\n

She watched.\u00a0 I asked her three times if she wanted to be lifted on the chair.\u00a0 No, she said three times.\u00a0 The bride and groom stood in the middle of the hora circle like statuettes on a wedding cake.<\/p>\n

There was no place to walk at the Marriott, which was in a large shopping development.<\/p>\n

I wrote notes <\/strong><\/span>to myself on the hotel stationery to justify my existence.\u00a0 My truest observation: “Yiddishe Cup is providing a valuable service for the Jewish communities of the Midwest.”<\/p>\n

The Marriott room had 8 pillows, 10 towels, 2 beds and 2 bathroom mirrors that showed everything.<\/p>\n

I couldn’t justify 8 pillows, 10 towels, etc.\u00a0 I just couldn’t.\u00a0 That bride should have danced.<\/p>\n

Luckily the hotel windows didn’t open.
