Cleveland!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 We did a Bb blues.\u00a0 I managed, but I didn\u2019t project; I had a thin sound, at least for outdoors.\u00a0 Kenny said to me, &#8220;You got to play with some balls!\u201d\u00a0 That hurt.\u00a0 I said, \u201cI have this cheap plastic reed!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The word in New Orleans is, If you&#8217;re loud, you&#8217;re loved. (Phil Frazier, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebirthbrassband.com\/\">Rebirth<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Kenny Terry<\/span> called \u201cWhat a Wonderful World\u201d and \u201cOn the Sunny Side of the Street&#8221; &#8212; tunes I actually knew.\u00a0 A man danced with me.\u00a0 (I kept playing.)\u00a0 He was Dr. Love, a street performer.\u00a0 No, I don\u2019t have a video or pic of any of this.\u00a0 The photo above is from the internet.\u00a0 My wife and family were off somewhere.\u00a0 But I do have a video of me playing with a gospel singer down the street:<\/p>\n<div class=\"arve-wrapper arve-normal-wrapper arve-youtube-wrapper \" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/VideoObject\" style=\"background-image: url(http:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/Rr1taF3VUps\/0.jpg);\">\n<div class=\"arve-embed-container\"><iframe id=\"arve-iframe-1\" class=\"arve-inner arve-hidden\" data-src=\"\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/Rr1taF3VUps?list=UUMIAlYOHXWO_vc59jAbIuVA&#038;iv_load_policy=3&#038;modestbranding=1&#038;rel=0&#038;wmode=transparent&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen><\/iframe><button class=\"arve-inner arve-play-background arve-iframe-btn\" data-target=\"arve-iframe-1\"><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Rr1taF3VUps&#038;list=UUMIAlYOHXWO_vc59jAbIuVA\" class=\"arve-hidden\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Rr1taF3VUps&amp;list=UUMIAlYOHXWO_vc59jAbIuVA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>New Orleans was like KlezKamp, except it was trad jazz and funky brass bands everywhere.\u00a0 I saw four terrific clarinetists in two blocks.\u00a0 One was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doreensjazz.com\/\">Doreen Ketchens<\/a>.\u00a0 I said to her, \u201cI saw you on <em>Treme <\/em>in the airport scene.\u00a0 I told my wife you weren\u2019t playing in that.\u201d\u00a0 Doreen said she was playing.\u00a0 I said, \u201cThe main actor &#8212; the trombone player &#8212; wasn\u2019t playing.\u00a0 He\u2019s from <em>The Wire<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 Doreen explained that a real trombonist played the music off-camera while the actor faked it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>By Central<\/strong><\/span> Grocery, New Orleans, clarinetist <a href=\"http:\/\/paulinbrothers.com\/\">Ricky Paulin<\/a> played, and even asked my musician son, Jack, to sit in on tambourine (after my prompting).\u00a0 My son said no thanks.
