Hold your questions. Here are the answers:<\/p>\n<p>I live in Berlin. My aunt once told me &#8212; she was drunk &#8212; \u201cWhy do you play that crap? You\u2019re German!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I play every year Kristallnacht commemorations, where there is always at least one Jew who comes up to me and says, &#8220;Are you Jewish?\u201d\u00a0 I say no, and he\u2019s says, \u201cYou have to be!\u201d\u00a0 Sometimes I tell the person my grandfather was Romanian,\u00a0 just to move on.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>I also<\/strong> <\/span>play jazz and funk (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vulfpeck.com\">Vulfpeck<\/a>).\u00a0 I have played even for Orthodox Jews in the States, but they don\u2019t thrill too much to my jazz music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/home\/yiddis6\/public_html\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/klezgoy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-21570 size-medium\" style=\"border: 2px solid #000000;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/home\/yiddis6\/public_html\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/klezgoy-300x230.jpg\" alt=\"klezgoy\" width=\"300\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/home\/yiddis6\/public_html\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/klezgoy-300x230.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.yiddishecup.com\/blog\/home\/yiddis6\/public_html\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/klezgoy.jpg 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I play reeds &#8212; saxophone and clarinet.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t try to be Jewish.\u00a0 I never wanted to be Jewish or <em>not<\/em> Jewish. Somebody said, \u201cYou\u2019re not really a Jew unless at one point in your life you didn\u2019t want to be a Jew.\u201d \u00a0 I don&#8217;t know about such things.<\/p>\n<p>In the Middle West, in Ohio, an old Jew called me a &#8220;poseur.&#8221;\u00a0 I had to look that\u00a0 up.\u00a0 He was a klezmer musician.\u00a0 Maybe<em> he<\/em> was a poseur.\u00a0 The middle of the United States is very red, I think.\u00a0 Only he could play klezmer, I think he means.
