At a nursing<\/strong><\/span> home gig, a resident told me she knew my late Aunt Bernice.<\/p>\n

Another resident remembered me from my junior high days. Her daughter had played first-chair clarinet, to my second chair, in junior high band.<\/p>\n

A third resident said he was the former dentist of Yiddishe Cup’s drummer.\u00a0 “What’s your drummer’s name again?” the dentist asked. [Don Friedman! The great Donny Friedman!]<\/p>\n

I said,<\/strong><\/span> \u201cI’ll give you the drummer\u2019s name, but first I\u2019m going to be clairvoyant!\u201d I guessed the dentist’s name, his approximate age (90), and what he had done that morning — three hours prior to the gig.<\/p>\n

I got everything right, but the dentist wasn’t impressed. He wanted the drummer’s name.<\/p>\n

I guessed everything right about the dentist because 1. I had seen the dentist playing tennis at a nearby racquet club that morning.\u00a0 A 90-year-old guy playing tennis is hard to forget.\u00a0 2. I knew his approximate age because he used to play tennis with my dad.\u00a0 3. \u00a0I knew his name because I had dated his daughter in high school.<\/p>\n

The daughter<\/strong><\/span> and I had gone to see Cool Hand Luke<\/em> at the Vogue,\u00a0 then out for shakes at Manner\u2019s Big Boy, Van Aken.\u00a0 It was a fix-up by our parents.\u00a0 It was my one-and- only date in high school.<\/p>\n

I asked the dentist, \u201cWhat\u2019s Barbara doing?\u201d\u00a0 The daughter.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a piano teacher in Boston,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

I just<\/strong><\/span> Googled her.\u00a0 She teaches classical and jazz.\u00a0\u00a0 She used to be a radio DJ.<\/p>\n
