I had<\/strong><\/span> a show biz lunch at Corky & Lenny\u2019s.\u00a0 The lunch was Hollywood-style<\/em>, not Hollywood.\u00a0 Bert Dragin, the owner of a furniture store chain, was looking for a movie script.\u00a0 (This was in 1980. C&L’s was still at Cedar Center.)\u00a0 Dragin said to me, \u201cI\u2019ve got money.\u00a0 Everybody will talk to me in L.A.\u00a0 Right now I have something in the Best of the New York Erotic Film Festival.\u201d He suggested I write a screenplay about a fire at a gay nightclub in Atlanta.\u00a0 Not my thing, sorry.<\/p>\n

Dragin sold his Name Brand Furniture stores and moved to Hollywood to make movies.\u00a0 He produced Suburbia<\/em> (1983), and directed Summer Camp Nightmare (<\/em>1987) and Twice Dead (<\/em>1988).<\/p>\n

I wrote a screenplay, The Flamer<\/em>, about a bar mitzvah party where several kids got burned to death by playing with sterno.\u00a0 [This paragraph is fiction.\u00a0 The rest is true.]<\/p>\n
