My father said if you don’t toot your own horn, nobody will.\u00a0 When my father was at the hospital dying of leukemia, he told the doctor, “I own this place.”\u00a0 My dad owned a Cleveland Clinic municipal bond.<\/p>\n I used to be shy.\u00a0 So was my father.\u00a0 He took a Dale Carnegie course on public speaking.\u00a0\u00a0 In my twenties, I was still shy; I heard a West Side hardware store owner say “jew down,” and it took me 20 minutes to sputter, “Bob, you know I’m Jewish.”\u00a0 (My family spent about $500 a month in that store.
