As you know.<\/p>\n<p>Yiddishe Cup is one of the most popular klezmer bands, because:<\/p>\n<p>(1.) We&#8217;re good.<\/p>\n<p>(2.) We promote ourselves.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>I learned item #2 <\/strong><\/span>, and the chutzpah to say item #1, from my dad, who was not a WASP-modest George &#8220;Poppy&#8221; Bush kind of guy. My father said if you don&#8217;t toot your own horn, nobody will.\u00a0 When my father was at the hospital dying of leukemia, he told the doctor, &#8220;I own this place.&#8221;\u00a0 My dad owned a Cleveland Clinic municipal bond.<\/p>\n<p>I used to be shy.\u00a0 So was my father.\u00a0 He took a Dale Carnegie course on public speaking.\u00a0\u00a0 In my twenties, I was still shy; I heard a West Side hardware store owner say &#8220;jew down,&#8221; and it took me 20 minutes to sputter, &#8220;Bob, you know I&#8217;m Jewish.&#8221;\u00a0 (My family spent about $500 a month in that store.
